Second Spaatzen Earns AF Flag Rank

Ted F. Bowlds, #290, became only the second Spaatz recipient to become a USAF general officer, pinning on his brigadier general’s star in a Pentagon ceremony on 4 Feb. The general entered the Air Force in 1975 through AFROTC and has served in key engineering management roles during development of the F-117 Nighthawk, the B-2 Spirit, and the AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile. He also served as commander of the Rome Laboratory in Rome, New York, and most recently was the C-17 Program Director at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. General Bowlds currently serves as Program Executive Office of Airlift, Trainers, and Modeling and Simulation, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., where he is responsible for managing and executing top priority Air Force programs for strategic airlift, joint undergraduate flight training systems, special operations and special air mission aircraft. 15 Feb 2002
