Hawaiian Spaatzen CAP’s Cadet of the Year for 2003
For the 7th consecutive year, Civil Air Patrol’s annual Cadet of the Year honors go to a Spaatz Award recipient. This year’s selectee is Cadet ColonelLouis R. Gabriel, Spaatz #1479, of Hawaii Wing’s 66th Composite Squadron at Hickam AFB. C/Col Gabriel is also the 5th consecutive Cadet of the Year selectee to receive an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he’ll report this summer as part of the class of 2007. C/Col Gabriel is certain to be the envy of his Academy classmates as he travels to Las Vegas in August to accept this honor at the CAP Nation Board Meeting and Convention.
C/Col Gabriel is chairman of the National Cadet Advisory Council and a graduate of Cadet Officer School, where he earned “Top Performer” honors. He traveled to Great Britain on the International Air Cadet Exchange in 2002 and has attended National Blue Beret. Louis is also a qualified mission ground team member and radio operator. An accomplished pianist and singer, C/Col Gabriel is a Dean’s List student, active in student government and participates in competitive hockey, kayaking and sailing.
C/Col Gabriel received his Spaatz Award certificate from Air University commander Lt Gen Donald LaMontagne during the Association’s Winter Leadership Symposium in Washington, DC, in March. 20 May 2003
