Show Your Support for the Charitable Deduction

It is time to take action.  Your charitable deduction may be in jeopardy.

The charitable deduction is a 100-year-old giving tradition.  It is a valuable and effective incentive for giving and strengthening the nonprofit sector.

As our congressional leaders try to find ways to balance the federal budget, one strategy that has been proposed is to reduce or eliminate the charitable deduction.  Beginning today, hundreds of leaders from the nonprofit community will meet with elected officials to encourage them to preserve the charitable deduction during the Charitable Giving Coalition’sProtect Giving—D.C. Days.”

I encourage you to join them and contact your elected officials about the importance of preserving the charitable deduction.

Please consider using one of the following three options and lend your voice to the Association as we strive to preserve our primary avenue for funding:

  • Option 1: Customize a letter provided by the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP) to share specific information about how changes to the charitable deduction will affect your community, donors and clients. Click here to download the letter.
  • Option 2: Customize text provided by the PPP and paste it into an email to send to your representatives. Click here to download the text.
  • Option 3: Use a form set up by the Association of Fundraising Professionals to contact your House member and senators from your state. Click here to access the page.

Working together, we can send a strong message to our congressional leaders about the importance of the charitable deduction.
